When you have a horse like Dexter, it can be hard to find items with his likeness. Betsie Millsap of The Artful Equine has the solution. She creates functional artwork from photos of your horse for the equestrian lifestyle.
You’ve got thousands of horse pics on your phone, so why not turn them into useful, modern portraits and accessories? Betsie takes tea towels, throw pillows, brushes and stall signs to the next level: such fun ways to always have your horse displayed in your home or barn!
When creating a piece of art, Betsie’s intent is to bring works of creativity and beauty into our everyday lives. Her functional art makes me rethink the way I look at ordinary things.
I am of the opinion that anything boring can be made interesting with the addition of a cute pon. There’s nothing more mundane than a dish towel and nothing cuter than our own horses. Behold: a tea towel with your very own horse adorning it!

Creating functional artwork is really nothing new though. What is new, however, are the techniques Betsie uses. It’s the marriage of hand-tinted fabric applique with hand embroidered details and leatherwork, for example, that makes her fabric pieces truly unique. Grooming brushes are also protected with three generous coats of weather and UV resistant sealant so they remain vibrant and beautiful.
Betsie’s custom portraits are too charming for me to believe. I think it’s her genuine love of horses that imbues each piece with character and affection.
Can you tell why I’m slightly obsessed with these brushes?

Although horses are Betsie’s specialty, don’t worry, dog people: Betsie can make a custom cameo of your pup, too! These pillows got me like awww.
