Equine Artist Of The Month: Dania Sierra

Dania Sierra

Communicated through abstract characteristics and geometric construction, the multiple views of Dania Sierra’s work inadvertently draws parallels to Picasso’s Cubist style, with an updated twist. Born in Havana, Cuba, the contemporary oils and modern equine artist’s ability to extract, borrow, adore and exploit things around her is brilliant. Dania sees the complicated and reduces it to simplistic forms. It epitomizes “less is more”.

Whenever I hear the word “artist,” one of the first names that comes to mind is “Picasso.” For almost as long as I can remember, I’ve loved his art (I’m a real sucker for some parts of his legend). Picasso’s personality certainly became part of his work and I feel the same about Dania’s art. Distortion is their essence.

Each Sierra Fine Art piece is truly one of a kind—modern, whimsical and vibrant. A signature characteristic of Dania’s work is her bold use of color that conveys the vibrant energy of the horse. It’s hard not to feel mixed emotions of love, pain, freedom, immortality and hope.

“Through the use of rich colors and textures, I’ve created my own personal vocabulary in a visual form. Expressing this through forms and entities allows me to tap into my own spiritual world and fragile emotions that travel through individuals.”

My favorite original oil & acrylic painting by Dania is “Blue Rider.” I love the colors, the movement, the feeling, the message and the originality of style. It objectively demonstrates the genius of her more abstract works, no longer are bound by traditional rules.

I’m also really fond of Dania’s limited edition equine digital prints. While some are prints of her original paintings, others are unique computer generated art like this commemorative Justify piece. I hope Dania has more Triple Crown Champions to draw inspiration from in her future!
